Universal Free School Meals

All children in Hunter's Bar Infant School are entitled to free school meals. No payment is required when a meal is ordered. We are delighted that the majority of children now take up the offer of a free hot school meal.

Children living in families receiving Income Support are entitled to free school meals (and milk). We encourage parents to take up this option if they are eligible. Free school meals can be authorised by the Benefits Section, First Point, Howden House, 1 Union Street, SheffieldS1 21SJ. Telephone: 0114 273 5705.

Drinks and snacks

The school is part of the national School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme and provides a daily fruit or vegetable snack for all children.

Milk is available for children each morning and all children under five, and those in receipt of free school meals, are entitled to receive milk free of charge.

It is important that children remain hydrated during the school day and water fountains are located around the school from which children can refill their water bottles. We strongly encourage parents and children to invest in a non-drip, plastic water bottle and these are available to buy in school at a small cost.

'...Pupil-premium funding is carefully identified and effectively used to provide extra support and enrichment opportunities such as the ‘Wide Awake Club’. This has had a good impact on the achievement of this group. The attainment of those pupils known to be eligible for free school meals is above that found nationally...'
